Paul Johnson, a technology consultant with a Master's in Human-Computer Interaction, met Graham Solo, a seasoned quizmaster who had been crafting and presenting pub quizzes across Mediterranean venues for nearly three decades.
Graham's credentials speak for themselves: over 1,300 meticulously crafted quizzes representing some 78,000 unique questions, each one personally created during his years teaching and entertaining audiences from the Greek island of Skiathos to Spain's Costa del Sol. His quiz nights had earned a reputation for wit, challenge, and originality that kept regulars coming back week after week.
The Digital Shift
As traditional pub quizzes saw declining attendance, online puzzle games exploded in popularity. Meanwhile, Graham's impressive archive of questions sat in physical stacks—a treasure trove of intellectual challenges awaiting a digital transformation.
The opportunity was clear: combine Graham's puzzle-setting mastery with Paul's development expertise and exploration of AI-assisted coding and design to create something uniquely engaging for the digital age. Taking inspiration from the phenomenal success of daily word games like Wordle, they set out to build not just another puzzle game, but a platform for daily mental challenges that could grow and evolve.
Building FlipAll5
With coding assistance from Claude AI, Paul transformed Graham's puzzle philosophy into an elegant, accessible game. The development process has been a true family affair with several family members serving as crucial beta testers, ensuring each concept works before launch.
The Result? FlipAll5 launches this January featuring:
- An Anagram Pairing Challenge that puts a fresh spin on word puzzles
- Race against the clock to find pairs of words that form anagrams
- Seamless experience across all devices—desktop, laptop, tablet, or mobile
- Daily challenges with instant WhatsApp or email sharing
- Three difficulty levels: Fun, Standard, and Expert

This is just the beginning. Later this year, FlipAll5 will introduce a cryptic version of the Anagram Pairing Challenge, leveraging AI and other advanced tools to develop appropriately challenging clues for puzzle enthusiasts who want an extra layer of complexity.
